Okaloosa Island Real Estate
Okaloosa Island is actually part of Santa Rosa Island, but the area in Okaloosa County not owned and operated by the nearby Eglin Air Force Base is called “Okaloosa Island”. Properties in Okaloosa Island are considered part of Fort Walton Beach.
Beachfront real estate with single family homes is not as common as Okaloosa Island condo homes, but it does exist, albeit for a price commensurate to the high value of the location. Over 6 miles of white quartz sand beach line the Gulf side of the island, widely considered the best Destin-area beach, so real estate is at a premium.
Okaloosa Island condos and single family homes are definitely a great investment for those looking for investment real estate. The nearby Eglin Air Force Base and vacation population make this a great spot for rental investment real estate. The retirement population and number of families looking to settle in the area, due to the number of high tech firms in and around Fort Walton Beach make Okaloosa Island real estate a good choice for “flipping”.
The Okaloosa Island Pier is a 1262-foot pier stretching almost a quarter of a mile into the Gulf. Shops line the edges of the pier. These include fishing shops where casual fishers can rent rods and tackle and try their hand at fishing for the many species known to have been caught out on the octagonal end of the Pier. Plenty of non-fisher folk come here too, to see the setting sun as it blazes a trail into the Gulf or to watch the antics of dolphins, which frequently come to hunt and play close by.
Shopping and dining can be found along the Pier and in the Island proper, but for more varied fare, one only has to cross the Brooks Bridge into Fort Walton Beach or the Destin Bridge into Destin. Both bridges are a part of Highway 98, which is the area’s major thoroughfare. There is also the Gulfarium, the Okaloosa Island Lifeguard Tower, Gulf Islands National Seashore and plenty of outdoor activities that one can while away the day engaging in.
Whether you’re looking to invest or stay, Okaloosa Island is definitely a great choice for real estate purchasing. The high value of the land and many attractive, well-maintained residences make a home in Okaloosa Island a great place to put your real estate dollars into.
